What's new in each version of Savings

Changelog

3.6.1Latest

Dashboard in two columns

  • Dashboard in two columns on iPad, Mac, iPhone landscape and iPhone Duo — each column scrolls on its own and follows the fold.
3.6

Made for iPhone Duo

  • iPhone Duo support — Home, Budget, Settings and AI use both screens, and the layout follows the fold when the device is partly open.
  • Roomier layouts on iPad, Mac and iPhone Duo — forms, lists and badges sit in a comfortable column.
  • Settings and AI share a cleaner two-column layout with a wider sidebar.
3.5

Bigger screens, smarter AI

  • Made for iPad, Mac and landscape — two-column layouts for Home, Budget, Settings and AI, and a roomier Dashboard.
  • AI chats are saved and sync with iCloud — pin, rename, swipe to delete, and tap the next question the AI suggests.
  • Budget redesign — plan rings with Available to Spend, and your Savings Goals right on the Budget tab.
  • Goals on autopilot — a default contribution, automatic monthly contributions, and automatic returns (monthly or yearly, % or amount).
  • Any expense can now count as a debt payment.
  • Four new Home summary pages: Top Spending, Your Plan, Daily Spending and Upcoming.
  • A fresh look for Settings.
3.4.1

Smoother scrolling

  • Faster, smoother scrolling on the Dashboard.
  • Saving Score now follows your budget plan — stay within your Needs and Wants and reach your savings target; going over lowers it.
  • Receipt scanning remembers the category you pick for each merchant, so the next scan files itself.
  • General performance improvements.
3.4

Your money on a calendar

  • Calendar View — see every transaction on a monthly calendar, with each day's categories and net amount, a week or month view, and drag-and-drop to move a transaction to another day. Switch with List / Calendar at the top of Home.
  • Analysis widgets (premium) — Spending Calendar, Cash Flow, Time of Day, Compare Periods and Spending Forecast.
  • Income Calendar and Savings Calendar — two new calendar widgets for the Dashboard.
3.3

A more organized dashboard

  • Dashboard Sections — Cards are grouped into sections you can collapse, from Overview to Trends.
  • Richer Charts — Smooth gradient trends, rounded bars, and a donut you can touch to see each category.
  • New Widgets — Spending by Weekday, No-Spend Days, Upcoming, and Income Sources.
  • Home by Day — Transactions are grouped under a header for each day.
  • Remembers Your View — The Dashboard keeps your date range, and the Home header keeps its page.
  • On All Your Devices — Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch stay in sync — see Help in Settings.
3.2

Faster, smoother, and easier to read

  • Much faster and smoother — the app opens and reopens without the pause, and Home, Budget, and the Dashboard scroll more freely, even with years of history
  • Date Format — choose dd/MM/yy, MM/dd/yy or yy/MM/dd in Settings, or follow your device's setting
  • AI Assistance replies now show formatting — bold figures and tidy bullet lists
  • Flat badges and level emblems in lists and cards, with a larger 3D coin when you open one to spin and flip it
3.1

Badges, levels and smoother everyday adding

  • Badges & levels — 39 badges for logging, streaks, staying on plan, saving, paying off debt and trying new features. Earn XP from badges, every day you log and every month you finish within your plan, and climb from Seedling to Money Master.
  • 3D badges and level emblems — drag to turn them, tap to flip; each level band has its own shape and symbol. A Level Roadmap shows the path ahead, with future levels kept a mystery.
  • Unlocks are celebrated with confetti and a haptic, and you can share your level or any badge with friends as an image.
  • Your level now sits at the top of Settings, with new My Level and My Badges cards on the Dashboard.
  • Quicker adding — on iPhone a floating + sits at the bottom right of Home and Budget; tap a Needs or Wants category to add an expense straight to it; and Save sits right under the amount, or beside “Not a Receipt” when reviewing a scan.
  • Debts follow the month you're viewing — a debt paid off in September stays in September and no longer appears in later months.
  • Sync fixes — your plan now syncs between devices using different calendars (such as the Buddhist calendar), settings refresh when you open the app, and Settings has Sync Now and Last Synced.
  • Search moved to the top left and Scan Receipt to the top right; a What's New row in Settings; and a Settings button in the Mac toolbar.
  • Apple Watch — new Plan and Statistics pages (Needs/Wants/Savings rings, spending pace, last 6 months), Quick Add right from the home screen, and new Remaining and Plan complications
  • Widgets everywhere — a new Your Plan widget, Lock Screen widgets for your plan, what's left, Quick Add and Scan, Quick Add and Scan Receipt in Control Center (iOS 18), and widgets on your Mac desktop
3.0

Budgets become a plan: Needs, Wants & Savings

  • Budgets are now a plan — split your income into Needs, Wants and Savings with 50/30/20, 70/20/10, 60/20/20 or a custom split. Needs and Wants are shared budgets for the categories you choose (custom ones too), and Savings becomes your monthly savings target. The plan replaces category budgets, presets, auto-set from history and per-category savings targets. The Budget tab is now a single page — your plan, statistics, savings goals and debts in one scroll.
  • Plan history — a month selector above the plan lets you view and edit any month's plan.
  • Statistics — Plan vs Actual, Spending Pace (spent so far, projected month-end and left per day) and your last 6 months of Needs, Wants, Other and Saved.
  • A compact plan strip in Add Item and Select Category shows what's left, used / cap and % used.
  • AI Summary — a short on-device Apple Intelligence summary with a tip, on the Budget tab and as a Dashboard widget. You can turn it off.
  • Savings goal contributions can optionally count toward your monthly savings target.
  • New backgrounds — a gallery of styles, free Unsplash photos, and Random.
  • Redesigned Settings, Guide and Introduction.
  • Home: Search and Scan Receipt moved to the top left, and Add (+) to the top right.
  • AI receipt scans are always recorded as expenses.
2.14

A clearer Dashboard and easier-to-read budgets

  • Clearer Dashboard names — Net Income, Available to Spend, Total Expenses and Total Saved, each with a one-line explanation.
  • A calmer Dashboard — the essentials come first; tap More Insights for graphs, breakdowns and everything else.
  • Simpler budgets — each category shows “spent / budget” and a plain “over budget” or “left”, with the percentage as a detail.
  • Savings goals and debts show saved or paid against the target, with thicker, easier-to-read progress bars.
2.13

Move between any month

  • The ‹ › arrows and swipe on Home and Budget now reach any previous or upcoming month — even ones with no transactions yet.
  • Choose Month & Year — pick any month of any year from the month menu and jump straight there.
  • Plan ahead: set budgets for upcoming months. Plus rate or share Savings with friends, and find our website, right from Settings.
  • Now in 15 languages — added Korean, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Traditional Chinese, Vietnamese and Indonesian, with on-device receipt scanning for all of them.
2.12

Debt Tracking — pay down what you owe

  • A new Debts section in the Budget tab — add credit cards, loans and anything you owe, with remaining balance, due dates and a debt-free meter.
  • Record a payment in one tap (saved as a Loan expense), or set it to repeat monthly so it logs itself.
  • Effective or flat-rate interest — add a loan term for flat-rate loans to track against the total to repay — plus an estimated debt-free date.
  • A new Debts home-screen widget and dashboard card, and AI Assistance now knows about your debts. Free for everyone.
2.11

Polished scanning, navigation, and translations

  • Scanned receipts now open straight to a ready-to-save form — pre-filled with the amount, date, and merchant — even when the category still needs a quick tweak.
  • A clearer tab bar, with labels for Home, Dashboard, Budget, AI Assistance, and Settings.
  • More of the app now follows your in-app language, with refreshed translations across English, Thai, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese.
2.10

AI Assistance — chat with your on-device financial guru

  • AI Assistance — a new tab where you chat with a financial guru that analyzes your spending, saving, budgets, and goals. Ask “how am I doing this month?” and get real answers from your own data.
  • A natural back-and-forth conversation that remembers what you asked — all on your device, nothing uploaded. Your first messages are free.
  • Search now has its own button on Home, right beside Scan Receipt — tap the magnifying glass any time.
2.9

Clearer receipt review, and background scanning that keeps up

  • Review against the receipt — a large preview of the scanned photo sits above the details; tap to open it full screen and pinch to zoom, so you can check every line.
  • Background auto-scan catches up your whole library — it scans a batch, lets you review, then keeps going until it's done.
  • A subtle indicator shows when a background scan is running, so you can keep using the app while it works.
2.8

Smarter receipt scanning, smoother batches, and quick navigation

  • Location from your receipt — scan a receipt and Savings tags the transaction with where the photo was taken, read on-device from the photo itself. On iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
  • Use a photo's location when adding or editing any transaction — attach a photo and tap “Use location from photo.”
  • Scanning a batch of receipts is smoother — see “Receipt 2 of 5,” skip one, or approve them all at once. You can also change a receipt's category while reviewing it.
  • Jump straight to the current month from the month menu on Home and Budget — and Ask AI is more reliable.
2.7

Savings & Investing — set money aside, track returns, reach goals

  • Savings — log money you set aside to grow (bank savings, stocks, funds); it's not spending, so your saving score stays high
  • Capital Gain — record investment returns as an amount or estimate by a %; gains and losses both count
  • Savings Goals — long-term goals like an emergency fund or a house deposit that build up across cycles, with an optional return projection
  • Savings Targets in the Budget tab, plus a new Savings widget, dashboard cards, and Siri — all free
2.6

Home, reimagined — one month in focus, with deeper insights

  • One month at a time — Home shows a single billing cycle; move between months with the ‹ › arrows, the month menu, or a swipe
  • A swipeable summary card — flip between your saving score, income vs. expense (now with net), and new insights
  • New insights — average spend per day, what's safe to spend per remaining day, and this month vs. last
  • Plus a round of refinements and fixes
2.5

Search & Ask AI — answers about your money, in plain words

  • Search & Ask AI — on the Search tab, ask things like “How much did I spend this month?” or “What's my biggest expense?” and on-device AI answers from your own data. Your first questions are free.
  • Smarter Search — recent searches and one-tap category suggestions get you there faster, with an Ask AI button right where a search would hit a dead end.
  • Everything runs on your device with Apple Intelligence — your questions and data are never uploaded.
  • Plus a round of refinements and fixes across the app.
2.4

Quick Add by typing, custom categories, faster scanning, and more

  • Quick Add by typing — enter a transaction in plain words like “lunch 250” and on-device AI fills in the amount and category.
  • Custom categories — create your own with a name, an icon, and an income or expense type, free and unlimited.
  • Snap a receipt right on your Mac — use the built-in camera or Continuity Camera (your iPhone), and Savings fills in the transaction.
  • Scan several receipts or slips at once — pick a batch and review them one at a time.
  • Home and Lock Screen widgets now keep up with edits from your other devices in near real-time.
  • Localization polish on Mac — sheets, dates, and numbers now follow your in-app language.
2.3

A native Mac app — and more

  • Savings is now a true native Mac app — a sidebar for Home, Dashboard, and Budget, a real Preferences window, menu-bar commands, and keyboard shortcuts.
  • Mac conventions throughout — pick photos from Finder, export from a native save panel, and open Search in its own window.
  • Select Category, Add Item, and Settings redesigned to feel at home on macOS — and refined on iPhone and iPad too.
  • Four new background themes — Lavender, Rose, Gold, and Slate.
  • The month header’s “Remaining” is now an animated saving-score ring that fills as you go.
  • Change a transaction’s category while editing, and delete it right from the edit screen.
  • Localized sample data and an onboarding language picker for a friendlier first run.
2.2

Scan your receipts — and a lot more

  • Scan a receipt or transfer slip with your camera or photo library — Savings reads the amount, date, and merchant, all on-device with Apple Intelligence.
  • Turn on auto-scan to log new receipts the moment you open the app — your first scans are free.
  • New Budget tab — set budgets as an amount or a share of your income, and save reusable presets.
  • App Lock — protect the app with a passcode and Face ID or Touch ID.
  • New Home Screen widgets: Quick Scan, Quick Add, Latest Items, and Budgets.
  • Dashboard additions — a saving-score trend across cycles, a map of where you spend, and a “select a past cycle” filter.
  • Show, hide, and reorder categories to match how you spend.
  • A friendly first-run welcome to get you started.

  • Add a note to any transaction for the extra context.
